Children's Ministries and Children's Christian Education comprises a wide spectrum of programmes and work with and for children. On one side of this spectrum, we have the traditional Sunday Schools, and on the other side street children's and other social justice outreach projects. The links below try to embrace the whole of the various ministries available, in the hope that there can be developed core curriculms which extend beyong the normal boundaries, as we have know them today in our Churches and faith communities.

As Children's traditional ministries move away from indoctrination methodologies and innovativbely develop towards inclusive partnership programmes with children and young people, we may find the key to renewal of our core Children's ministries programmes.

We hope the resources and links will contribute to the fuller participation of children in their own ministries as we support them on their journeys.

The WCC's work on children has focused on rights and empowerment. Since the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child was accepted by the UN General Assembly in 1989, the WCC has advocated for effective implementation of its recommendations. The Council has also sought to empower children and children's networks to allow for the active participation and leadership of children in activities affecting their welfare. As one member of the Global Ecumenical Children's Network has said, "Children need to be given the means to face the future."
